Anna is a UK based freelance theatre director. She was previously Deputy Director at Jermyn Street Theatre and an Associate Artist with Live Theatre, Newcastle. In 2016, she won a JMK Regional Bursary.
Anna has worked with companies including the Royal Court; RSC; DEM productions; Live Theatre; Paines Plough; Northern Stage; Manchester Royal Exchange; The Bush; New Writing North and Mortal Fools. She trained on the National Theatre Directors course and through her work as an Assistant and Associate Director. She has directed and taught for leading UK drama schools including Mountview, ArtsEd, Drama Centre and Rose Bruford.
Anna is interested in politically and socially engaged work. She is interested in narratives that explore our relationship with power, class and gender, and that interrogate the social structures that maintain inequality and violence within our society.
She is interested in big stories that offer alternative perspectives on familiar personal experiences, and in small stories that challenge our perception of wider social issues.
Alongside her work as a director, Anna works as a script reader, dramaturg and facilitator. She regularly runs creative writing and drama workshops with young people and adults. She teaches an online playwriting course with popular writing collective, Write Like A Grrrl.
